The new MC aktiv 3/21 has been published

Dec 22, 2021

In the current issue of MC aktiv, we focus on the new cement standard DIN EN 197-5, which was published in July 2021 after years of tug-of-war. As usual, the current issue comes with many more news, innovations, inspirations and project reports.

TOP TOPIC: The cement industry in climate change

The climate change also means a sustainable restructuring in the (construction) industry. In July 2021, the new cement standard DIN EN 197-5 was published, which defines the framework conditions for a significant reduction of the clinker content in cements. The hot topic in our current MC active! In the article, we explain the innovations of the cement standard and what effects it has on the cement industry. We also show how MC is responding to the new standards with a wide range of products. In addition, Dr.-Ing. Jürgen Krell, ö.b.u.v SV IK-Bau NRW for concrete technology and mortar, gives an assessment of the topic.

BIG PICTURE: Sydhavn/M4 tunnel project

Line 4 of the metro in Denmark's capital Copenhagen is currently being extended by 4.5 kilometres and five new stations in a major infrastructure project. MC-Montan Injekt TR-X is used to seal the sealing profiles in the joints between the segments. In addition, the injection resin MC-Injekt 2133 flex was used for the permanent sealing of cracks as well as the fine filler MC-DUR 1250 TX for levelling the wall surfaces of the tunnel inner shells. You can find the detailed project report on our website.

INNOVATIONS & INSPIRATION of the MC

The INNOVATION section can once again boast some new products: MC has expanded its Ortolan product range with the new, solvent-free concrete release agent Ortolan Classic 712. We also present our new sealing tape MC-FastTape FD as well as Konudur Robopox 10 fast, an epoxy resin that is suitable for the renovation of non-walk-in sewers with robot technology. The subject of the INSPIRATION section is MC-DUR LF 680, which can be used to completely seal bridges, trough structures and parking decks in one day, even in the autumn and winter months.

BEST PRACTICE: Projects, projects, projects

MC's products were again able to contribute to the success of several projects: Among other things, the high-performance superplasticisers of the MC PowerFlow range ensured the smooth construction of the 570-metre-long viaduct near Vasszentmihály, Hungary. In the Indian state of Goa, a 640 m long cable-stayed bridge will soon be completed, the concrete of which will be protected with an MC product. The special concrete replacement Nafufill GTS-HS rapid was used for the repair of the Bremen-Burg railway bridge. And in the south of Brazil, MC concrete cosmetics are used to refine and protect the exposed concrete surfaces at the Residencial Brava Arts Complex.

SUSTAINABILITY

In the sustainability section, we focus on the SABINE research project. Here MC is working together with research institutions and other companies on the utilisation of steelworks slag as a binder for geotechnical building materials.

As usual, we round off our issue with internal topics and personalia.
