New Emcekrete 50 A grouting concrete for thicker layers

Sep 24, 2020

MC-Bauchemie has added a new product to its Emcekrete range of concretes and mortars for rigid grouting applications in concrete construction: With Emcekrete 50 A, users now also have at their disposal a slow-hardening grouting solution which can be used both for large-volume applications with layer thicknesses up to 320 mm and as a repair mortar according to German concrete component protection and repair code RL-SIB.
Emcekrete 50 A contains high-quality raw materials that serve to reduce the heat of hydration during setting so as to effectively prevent cracking. This ready-to-use grouting concrete merely needs to be mixed with water and exhibits excellent flow properties. his means it is readily pumpable and can be poured with ease. Emcekrete 50 A exhibits a low tendency to shrinkage and forms a good bond with the substrate. The grouting concrete is also characterised by high resistance to freeze-thaw cycling according to the CDF test method*. It achieves compressive strength values of 20 N/mm² after one day, 55 N/mm² after seven days and 65 N/mm² after 28 days, thus satisfying the criteria for compressive strength class C 50/60. The grouting concrete has been tested according to EN 12390-8 with a water pressure load of 5 bar, satisfying water impermeability requirements for moisture classes WO, WF and WA.

Wide range of grouting and repair uses

In the past, such grouting products have been used primarily for thin-layer applications. The maximum layer thickness was limited to 25 times the largest aggregate grain size. With a maximum grain size of 8 mm, this meant a maximum layer thickness of 200 mm. With the advent of the new German DAfStb (Reinforced Steel Committee) code of July 2019 on the ‘Production and use of cement-bound grouting concrete and grouting mortar’, it is now possible to apply grouting concretes with low heat of hydration and early strength class C – developing a compressive strength between 10 and 25 N/mm² after 24 hours – in a layer thickness of 40 times the maximum grain size. With a maximum grain size of 8 mm, this therefore now means a maximum layer thickness of 320 mm. Emcekrete 50 A fulfils this requirement and thus enables the pouring of larger volumes.

Emcekrete 50 A also meets the requirements of Germany’s ZTV-ING civil engineering code for applications involving the grouting of bearings and joints and the chocking of anchor plates. MC-Bauchemie's grouting concrete can thus now also be used for civil engineering structures.

Moreover, according to the 3rd amendment of German repair code RL-SIB, the grouting concrete can be used as a repair mortar for the reprofiling of concrete components. This highly flowable product can therefore also be used for structural concrete repairs.

Further areas of application are the concreting of channels and gutters, crane rails and supports in sleeve foundations. The grouting of voids and intermediate spaces, recesses and rigid joints between precast elements or between precast elements and in-situ concrete with Emcekrete 50 A is likewise possible with the same high degree of reliability.
