New pigmented high-performance coating MC-Color LE
Feb 18, 2021
MC-Bauchemie’s pigmented high-performance coating MC-Color LE rounds off the MC-Color range of modular surface protection systems. The MC-Color portfolio comprises state-of-the-art surface coatings for the protection and colour design of concrete and similar surfaces in outdoor areas. And now, with MC-Color LE, interior walls in heavily used buildings such as schools, offices, museums, hotels, medical practices and hospitals can not only be aesthetically enhanced, but also effectively protected from graffiti, dirt and everyday marks, with quick and easy cleaning also assured when required.
Felt-tip marker graffiti, drawings, tags, and everyday signs of wear and tear are frequently seen on interior walls of public and commercial buildings – a nuisance that can usually only be remedied through extensive and expensive cleaning or repainting. But now, with MC-Color LE, MC-Bauchemie has developed a high-performance coating that achieves top marks in terms of ink and stain protection, fire resistance, resilience and cleanability – and thus service life. It is, moreover, completely harmless to health, which means there are no restrictions to its application indoors. This has been confirmed by trials conducted by various test authorities, such as Germany’s Committee for Health-related Evaluation of Building Products (AgBB), iLF Magdeburg GmbH and TÜV SÜD, each of which awarded the product top marks.
MC-Color LE thus completes MC-Bauchemie's range of modular surface protection systems comprising the three product lines MC-Color Proof, MC-Color Flair and MC-Color Flex and a total of nine modern, high-performance coating variants. Each combines excellent technical performance characteristics with optimised processing properties, while offering builders, specifiers and applicators durable solutions for every task in the protection and aesthetic design of concrete and a further wide range of surfaces.
Safety assured
MC-Color LE – LE stands for Low Emission – uses a new type of binder technology to create an extremely smooth and closed surface structure on which conventional soiling and a variety of ink-based graffiti from waterproof felt-tip markers or ballpoint pens can usually be effortlessly removed. The satin-gloss, particularly resistant surface finish ensures a permanently aesthetic appearance with a long service lifetime. In the wet abrasion scrub test to EN 13300, MC-Color LE achieved the best possible rating of "Class 1”. Surfaces coated with MC-Color LE are absolutely UV-stable, scratch-resistant, abrasion-resistant, water-repellent and water-impermeable, yet still open to water vapour diffusion. MC-Color LE offers universal suitability across the full range of interior wall coating applications, covering everything from mineral substrates such as standard or lightweight concrete and standard or polymer-modified interior plaster to glass-fibre and woodchip wallpaper, not to mention old coatings and many other surface types.
The 28-day test chamber investigation performed by Germany’s Committee for Health-related Evaluation of Building Products (AgBB) determined that this hydrophobic, dirt-repelling high-performance coating is harmless to health and therefore suitable for indoor use without reservation. MC-Color LE also received top marks in other tests: In the cleanability assessment to EN 13300, the surface coating was awarded the very good rating of 1. In addition to conventional soiling, substances such as blood, ketchup, mustard and faeces, for example, were all removed residue-free. It also facilitates fast and environmentally compatible cleaning. In the disinfectant resistance test performed by TÜV SÜD, this high-performance coating was found to offer easy disinfectability without undergoing damage. Similarly, MC-Color LE exhibits excellent decontaminability according to ISO 8690. This makes it the ideal solution for the food industry, clinics, hospitals, doctors' surgeries, radiology units, nurseries, schools, care homes and more. MC-Color LE also comes with the best possible fire rating of A2-s1, d0, according to EN 13501-1, i.e. it is non-combustible – the coating does not drip when exposed to fire, nor does it give rise to any impairment of visibility from fume emission or smoke development. This high-quality surface protection coating from MC-Bauchemie thus also sets new standards in terms of fire behaviour.
